Ana do Baú

Ana Fernandes de Souza was born in 1927 in the community of Campo Alegre, municipality of Turmalina, Valley of Jequitinhonha, Minas Gerais State. After the death of her parents, she lived with her adopted sister in Fazenda do Baú, where she worked on the land. In her leisure hours she would use simple tools to model the clay. She created her own top quality stylistic and creative production. The focus of her sculptures is on how she denaturalises everyday scenes, imbuing them with an almost fantasy atmosphere.
