Catalog of the exhibition "O Brasil na Arte Popular" was held at the National Museum of the Republic in Brasilia between May and June 2011, with 1,500 works from 70 popular artists on display, the largest of its kind ever held in Brazil. Curated by Angela Mascelani – the Director of the Museu Casa do Pontal - the exhibition in some cases emphasized the individual artist, his thinking, his formal creation and the artistic solutions he found. In others cases, the focus was placed on collectivity, with the characteristics and names in common.  This is the case of Alto do Moura / PE; the Jequitinhonha Valley / MG; certain areas of Cariri / CE and Paraíba Valley / SP. Some of the works are by artists from specific ceramicist communities and other were created in isolation. The highlights were the presence of Mestre Vitalino and the first works done by him, still in the 1940s. From the Jequitinhonha Valley there were Dona Isabel Mendes da Cunha and Noemisa Batista. From the south of the state of Minas Gerais came GTO (Geraldo Telles de Oliveira) and the fantasy artist Antonio de Oliveira, who created his "enchanted world", composed of more than three thousand sculptures. Cariri, in Ceará, was represented by Nino and his elaborately carved logs. And the works of the sisters Maria de Lourdes Cândido and Cícera, and other relatives. From Santa Catarina, the Nativity Scene of Zequinha, of São José, attests to the presence of the influence of the Azores in the South. The exhibition of Brazilian Folk Art also showed the visionary art of Manuel Galdino, Nho Caboclo, Ulisses Preira Chaves and Dadinho, in addition to representative art from various religious and festive events - Carnival, Bumba-meu-boi, Boi de mamao, Cavalo Marinho, Maracatu, Cavalhada, Folia de Reis, Calango, Pau-de-fitas etc..
